RANT: Heteronormativity in Roleplays

I’m not sure if it’s just me who thinks this. For all I know it is. Maybe I’m just being biased because of my own sexual orientation. But I’m throwing it out there, anyway.

Why is it that in some most original roleplayers, every character seems to be straight? Unless it is stated in said characters bio, they all end up heterosexual and to me, I just find it a) boring and b) unrealistic.

I’m not saying you should have to state each characters orientation in their bio (although this is what I prefer doing), but if you’re not going to do that, I would make sure your roleplayers know that their are no pre-determined sexualities. Many a time have I found an open character I liked, and wanted them to be gay or bisexual, and felt too embarrassed to ask if that was okay.

Basically, I think we need more sexual diversity. Feel free to share your thoughts.
